Abductions in Barncombe
A cloying mist. A desperate town. A grieving father. Will you uncover the Truth in Barncombe or join the growing list of missing people?
This cosmic horror adventure verges on the unnerving with one of the player characters remembering glimpses of a past they don’t remember. Adventure through the misty town of Barncombe in search of missing children only to uncover that all is not as it seems and something truly evil is watching over you.
“An eye with two tendrils emerging from it on either end. You recognize it. You’ve seen this symbol before. But where?”
A Mystery Within and Without
Strange symbols are cropping up all over town, symbols no one recognises… except for one of your characters. They’ve seen these before, remember fleeting glimpses of endless misty hallways and tentacle faced monstrocities. This is psychological horror wrapped into a mindflayer package.
As your party explores Bluetspur, one of them will get extra information of a life they lived and no longer remember. As a fundemental aspect of Bluetspur, this adds a new layer to the atmosphere and tension of a mystery gone wrong. It’s also a totally optional rule so you can use it with a willing table or ignore it altogether for added accessibility.
Bluetspur Comes to Life
When Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft released, I was overjoyed with all the new horror content at my fingertips. Bluetspur stuck out to me as something truly unique: a world of labs and mindflayers where you can’t even trust your own mind. This is cosmic horror on a new scale and I knew I had to make adventures around it.
But, despite Bluetspur being such a unique Domain of Dread, it didn’t get a lot of attention. That’s where Barncombe comes in. Your characters will explore a village in the midst of a Bluetspurian abduction. Adventure through a town riddled with hidden symbols, delve into a crypt, and face the Truth locked away inside your own mind.
A Village For Any World
Whether you’re playing in Faerun, Barovia, or a world entirely your own, Barncombe can be easily inserted without much hassle. Rename the town at your pleasure to fit in your world. Everything is designed to fit neatly into a small area to empower you to slot the adventure in however you see fit. And with Bluetspur’s nature being a strange, eldritch domain full of mysteries, you can even have Barncombe disapear with no one but the characters recalling such a place existing. The possibilities are endless.
